Wetherby lost their unbeaten home run with the visit of York 4ths on Saturday.
York started the brighter and through a massively powerful run from their number 8 were on the scoreboard in the first few minutes. Wetherby fought back hard and our pack started to gel, but with some people playing out of position it had taken some time.
Wetherby soon got on the score sheet to level proceedings but yet again York rallied and took the lead. Then Nathan Leonhardt in his first start for the club got his positioning perfect to receive the ball out wide and he kept his composure to score.
Yet again York came back strongly, with a restart that didn’t make the ten metres they carried on playing while we were waiting for the ref to make a call, which he didn’t and York subsequently scored. And in seconds of our restart they crossed the line again, this time converting.
HT Wetherby 10 – York 22
After half time Wetherby had regrouped and shaken ourselves down and we came back with more fire, we soon got on the score sheet through Marcus Little. York came back at us again but we held firm and rallied to cross the line again, only for Andrew Gillighan to cross the deadball line. Wetherby did score again, but York had pulled off a win on a bad day at the office for Wetherby.
Final Score 22-20 to York
