Both sides played with strong mobile packs and pace outwide leading to a very close opening 10 minutes before a slick inside ball from Alex Duss at 10 saw Robbie Hardy canter through for the first try closely followed by another try by the lively Jack Kay on the wing. The Wetherby back row of Levi, Gilbert and Cayton were starting to gain the upper hand in the lose and the next try was not long coming as Johnny Wheatly made the most of his pace to finish of a classic training pitch move to score under the posts. This seemed to breathe new life into the Leos side who responded with 2 tries of their own before a final try of the half from ever green centre Peter Carr saw the teams go in at Half time with Wetherby leading 28-12. The second half continued in the same vein with two more tries to Wetherbys Tom Tetley and James Picker countered by a brace of tries for Leos. Alex Duss proved reliable with the boot converting all 6 tries leading to a final score of 42-24 to Wetherby with a well deserved Man of the match going to Will Cayton on his first game back.
This coming Saturday Wetherby play local rivals Knaresborough in a double header with the 1s away and the 2s at home. These should both be excellent games and if you have not played for a while but fancy a run out give Richard Watts a call on 07735498571 and he will make sure you get a run out.
