There was little between the side in the opening 15 minutes but then the visitors scored two quick converted tries through slick handling. They continued to impress with their speed onto the pass which proved too much for the home defence and scored two further converted tries before half time to put the game out of Wetherby’s reach.
The home side put in a much better performance in the second period. The team included 5 debutants. James Fox was in the action at scrum half, Rob Horsfall and Dave Hughes acquitted themselves well. The Reds seemed to step up to the pace of the opposition and scored two excellent tries. First they charged down two clearance kicks enabling the pack to set up George Gilbert who drove over.
The Reds kept up the pressure and it was encouraging to see the young team get the better of some of the exchanges resulting in a Tom Edwards try which Alex Duss converted. The Wetherby front row of Frank Pitchford, Nick Young and Bradley Mason dominated their front row opponents assisted by youngsters Freddie Oxland and Eddie Harrison.
After a bad first half this was a more promising performance and much improved on last week’s lack lustre display. The next game is away at Hornsea.
