The Reds started playing downhill with the strong wind behind them. They failed to use it as well as the home side did in the second half. However whenever they did get some ball they showed their usual attacking flair. Early on Tom Edwards made good break and young Jack Kaye tried a chip ahead but they earned their first points from a penalty by Alex Dus.
Northallerton hit back on 15 minutes when their forwards drove over after sustained good pressure. Wetherby took the lead however when good use of rare possession by Stu Wrigglesworth and Tom Edwards put young Will Jefferson in for a try. The hosts went in at half time with a slender lead scoring an unconverted try.
The wind got up stronger in the second half and Northallerton used it to good effect. Their domination of possession allowed them to kick to the corner where their forwards won most of the ball. Their rolling mauls were excellent and the Reds could find no answer to them. The hosts glut of possession brought 3 further tries giving a score line of 29 – 8 at the end though Wetherby stuck at it but had nothing to show for their efforts.
Next week they go to league leaders Old Otliensians in a crucial promotion contest.
