The Reds overcome their nearest league challengers by 38 points to 0.
"Their most complete performance yet..." was the view of Head Coach Mike McHugh following Wetherby's fifth successive bonus point win outplaying rivals Mosborough at Grange Park. It was an almost complete performance showing how they could score tries but most importantly in the second half how they can defend.
Opening the scoring after 4 minutes with a Conor Sheriden penalty they went further ahead 10 minutes later when Steve Hoather went over from close range which was followed when Jack Kaye scored .
Just before the break Myles Oates scored after supporting a tap penalty by Harry Kaye. All the tries were converted by the faultless boot of Conor Sheriden.
So the half time score was 24 - 0 which was a little surprising as Mosborough had been unbeaten this season and scored heavily. Their game is based on forward power but they came up against a much improved Wetherby pack. Will Dutton was adjudged the Man of the match but the award could have gone to any of their forwards.
The Reds continued to run in the points in the early part of the second half. tries from Will Dutton, who having gone close once would not be denied a second time when he took a tap penalty and touched down near the posts.
The home team's next try was a beauty when Myles Oates went down the left wing with others in support and excellent handling put Barney Roberts in for the bonus point try. Again Conor Sheriden converted both.
The game changed in the final quarter when the Mosborough pack took control of the ball. The Reds were weakened by 3 yellow cards for constant infringements and were down to 13 men for a while. However the defence coped brilliantly tackling like demons. The victory was as much to do with the defensive work as their ability to score tries.
So sitting proudly at the top of the league with 5 bonus point victories from 5 games Wetherby go to Wensleydale next week . They are the only unbeaten team in the league with a massive points difference of 194 points which is the highest in all the Yorkshire Leagues
