They lacked passion for the first half but found their attacking style and pace in the second period.
They fell behind to a Halifax penalty within seconds of the kick off
and then lost the reliable Frank PItchford with a calf strain minutes later. Young Tom Hicks showed them the way with a brilliant burst from within his own half brushing away attempted tackles before he handed on to the supporting Will Jefferson to score which Conor Sheridan converted.
The Reds committed a further offence and Vandals added another penalty goal. Despite winning set piece ball the mid field stuttered and continued the half in desultory fashion, leaving both Coach Mike McHugh and their supporters biting their nails. So at half time with the score 7 - 6 they got a roasting from the Team Manager.
This seemed to have the desired effect and The Reds began to find some momentum and went close to scoring on three occasion the last of which saw Myles Oates have the ball knocked from his grip as he went in to score. He made up for it shortly after when he finished off a tap penalty and then from a glorious Andy Trotman break he scored again. H e completed is hat trick in the 78th minute when he picked up a mistake by the Vandals.
It was the quick feet and pace of Andy Trotman and Myles Oates
which turned the game in Wetherby's favour. Andy Trotman scored on 70 minutes following a tap penalty and he then put Conor Sheridan in for his try which he converted along with another four.
The Wetherby pack won their match despite losing Jack Wray and created the platform for Oates and Trotman. Tom Hicks and Tom Bottomley played well and the defence was sound. Now the clear league leaders Wetherby have a rest from League action next week before meeting Mosborough at Grange Park in 2 weeks time.
