Wetherby started well with the forwards showing an immense amount of control and power driving a lineout from the Fax 22 for the first try of the game, dotted down by the impressive Will Dutton. This was quickly followed by a powerful run from centre Rob Adair, But with this good start came heartache for the Wetherby sides pre-Madonna centre Andrew Trotman who tore his hamstring for the 12th time in three seasons. Perhaps a career ending injury.
Then further compounding the teams heartache winger Jack Kayes sudden rush of blood caused the Wetherby side to play with 14 players. Wetherby though scored the next points even with 14 men through the boot of Sheridan, again proving with another excellent all round display why he is a club favourite. Then with Hogans red card after a slight alteration, the team looked like they would be in for a long hard fought game. However with half time imminent the Wetheby side crossed twice more.
The halftime whistle galvanised the team resulting in what may well have been the best forty minutes Wetherby have put together so far this year with backs and forwards combining wonderfully for many of the tries, some which swept from the Wetherby 22 up the field with the finesse of the French in the 90’s and power of a juggernaut.
The most notable tries being that of Hoather and Kaye both involving slick hands and interplay between back and forwards, and a brilliant solo effort from Wetherby’s young no.8 George Gilbert. Other try scores included another from Rob Adair, and one each for Bottomly, Mason, Sheridan and Wetherby’s very own Nick Oates.
Final score 59-10, this week Wetherby host York RI who are also unbeaten in this years league.
