WETHERBY 16 V HALIFAX VANDALS 10

WETHERBY 16 V HALIFAX VANDALS 10

Sean Lally7 Nov 2013 - 18:15

Wetherby continued their winning run with a hard earned 16 – 10 victory over Halifax Vandals in their replayed division 4 game at Grange Park.

Showing their usual attacking intentions Wetherby were soon threatening the Vandals line. Jack Kaye burst down the blind side but was just short of the line.

From a resulting penalty Alex Dus made it 3pts to nil. The lead was short lived however when Halifax equalised with a penalty. Continuing to press the Reds went close again but Jonny Wheatley was tackled into touch just short of the line. Not to be denied though almost immediately Jack Kaye scored after some smart handling.

The Reds were again rewarded for their attacking sprit first with a penalty by Dus and then after winning a Halifax lineout the ball reached David Adair at outside centre where he beat 2 defenders with a mazy run. This gave them a comfortable 16 – 3 lead approaching half time. However they committed a series of infringements and Vandals took them back 40 meters with these successive penalties. Ultimately Halifax scored a converted try in the 54th minute of the half.

The second period was a different story with the Halifax forwards gaining more possession and so threatened more. However the home defence held and so the second half was scoreless.

Wetherby made it hard for themselves their seeming naivety in giving away endless penalties.

So the final score was 16 – 10 and Wetherby go to Mossborough next week for a further league game sitting well up the league table.
