Wetherby returned to league action having had a week off and a tour to Edinburgh where they scored over 100 points in 2 games. However perhaps due to an excess of travel they produced a lack lustre display against lowly league opposition. They were short of several regulars in Skipper James Gibson, Bradley Mason, Jack Wray, Nick Olte and nick Oates and Seb Davies was given his first full outing at No9.
They started lively enough and after 10 minutes went ahead with a good try' following a sharp break by Steve Hoather, by Andy Trotman, his 11th of the season. Alex Dus kicked the conversion.
Hessle showed throughout the game a resolve which belied their lowly league position and after 25 minutes scored when poor control at the base of the scrum by the Reds let Hessle in for an unconverted try. Wetherby increased their lead by half time to 10-5 with a Dus penalty.
Shortly after the break Hessle scored their second try to even the scores but that was their last and Wetherby hit back with 2 further tries. George Gilbert forced his way over for Alex Dus to convert with his 55th successful kick of the season. Then an attack down the right by Barney Roberts was continued by Andy Trotman who still had plenty to do but spreadeagled the Hessle defence and scored out wide.
Maintaining their 3rd place in the leque must be the objective of the Redds which will be a tough task when they play their penultimate game at Stocksbridge who are one place ahead of them on the 5th of April..
