With the sun on their backs Wetherby set out in their usual style backing up and off loading with success. First Nick Oates combined with Tom Bottomley, appearing for the first time this season who handed on to Myles Oates but were held up short. This continued when Steve Hoather , who had a great game, took a pass from Nick Oates and handed on to Liam Hogan who put Myles Oates in for a try. The conversion attempt hit the post.
The Wetherby scrum was on top where Bradley Mason and Elliot Griffiths were most effective ,they took one against the head but Wetherby failed to profit from it. However they were awarded a penalty which Alex Dus converted when Hornsea went over the ball, this was after the Referee disallowed Andy Trotman a try judging that he had failed to touch down properly.
After 25 minutes The Reds put together a thrilling move which went almost the length of the field with several players involved before Conor Sheriden touched down and Alex Dus converted.
The next try came after the Reds defended their own line and cleared with a long kick. From it they caught the Hornsea full back in possession and won the resulting ruck and Tom Edwards broke clear and ran in from halfway.
After halftime Hornsea changed their tactics to good effect keeping the ball in their forwards and denying Wetherby much ball. Wetherby defended very well when their line came under heavy pressure with skipper James Gibson showing the lead centre Robbie Hardy tackling well.Eventually the Reds broke out when Conor Sheriden ran from deep in his own half he was well supported and James Gibson was able to reach out and score. Alex Dus converted again.
Next week the Club is on tour to Edinburgh so the next league game is against Hessle at home on the 22nd March
