A crucial game for Wetherby against a doughty side who won at home earlier in the season.
The Reds always knew this would be a tight game and so it proved with both teams contributing to an exciting game.the match was a contrast between Wetherby's open running style and the visitors keen tackling and goal kicking.
Leeds Corinthians were the first to score with a penalty after 10 minutes but Wetherby went ahead 5 minutes later with a smart try when Robbie Hardy put a flat pass inside for Tom Edwards to run in from 30 meters. Unfortunately the conversion was missed which would prove very costly in the end.
Corinthians retook the lead with a penalty from a late tackle which resulted in a yellow card. Though Wetherby continued to attack they went further behind when a kick was charged down and regathered by the Leeds winger who ran 60 meters for a try which was converted. This left the Reds 13 points to 5 down at half time.
Immediately after the break Bradley Mason won a maul and made good ground before releasing Connor Sheridan who scored., The conversion was missed. A few minutes later the home team were awarded a penalty which Conor Sheridan kicked. Wetherby continued to attack but their accuracy let them down and too often individuals tried too hard. This resulted in an interception try for the visitors when the backs threw a pass which the Corinthians centre gratefully took and ran almost the length of the field.
Wetherby were soon running hard again at the visitors line but their execution was poor often forcing their passing. However after 62 minutes Myles Oates made ground and the forwards won the ruck enabling Robie Hardy to go in for another unconverted try/ This levelled the scores but neither side could break the deadlock and they finished up all square.
Wetherby probably deserved to win as they tried to play open football but the lack of a goal kicker lost them the game by missing conversions and not opting for kickable penalties.
They travel to Hornsea next week for another league game
