It was never going to be a pitch to play open rugby on and so it proved. It was hard slog for both teams on the heavy Halifax ground.
The first score went to the Reds when Connor Sheridan brightened the proceedings by intercepting a Halifax move and running in from more than 50 meters to score.
The hosts squared matters with a try by capitalising on a Wetherby mistake . Alex Dus put the Reds ahead again with a well taken penalty,
It was the tireless Nick Olte who won the match in the second half when he collared the Halifax scrum half at a line out who dropped the ball which Nick Olte seized on to score.
Halifax were not finished however and they scored a try following a Wetherby mistake.
The final minutes saw the hosts piling on the pressure but the excellent Wetherby defence held out for a great victory. Both sides gave their all in the boggy conditions.
