They set of well scoring a converted try in the third minute. Connor Sheriden hacked on a loose ball and won the race to the touchdown.
Alex Dus added a good conversion. Corinthians hit back a couple of minutes later when good handling lead to a try . They took the lead shortly after with a penalty for offside. Disaster struck on the half hour when an uinecessary wild pass enabled thge Leeds winger to pick up and race seventy meters to score under the posts which was converted.
Early in the second half Wetherby scored a peach of a try, showing what they are capable of when they gert good quick ball from a set piece.
Nick Oates gave Alex Dus time to attack the defence holding them long enough to free Andy Trotman who served Connor Sheriden in space which enabled him to run in for the try.
The game continued to be a tense and full blooded affair. Wetherby’s defensive qualities were evident against strong Corinthians pressure. They spent long periods near their own line . Only a high tackle which lead to them conceding three points spoiled things. So with a bonus point to play for the Reds turned to attack but they could not recreate the swift ball they had produced earlier. The hosts sealed the game with a further penalty denying Wetherby the bonus point they probably deserved.
The forwards put in a much improved display with skipper James Gibson outstanding along with his fellow tacklers.
The opportunity to end their poor run of defeats comes on Saturday at Grange Park (KO 2.15) against lowly Hornsea.
