Both lineout and scrum were patchy and against an eager and well drilled team seized on these shortcomings. The scores were largely even up to half time when the visitors lead 10 points to 8. Their points came from 2 penalties and a try which came from a Wetherby mistake. The Reds countered with a Dus penalty and an excellent try by Jack Kaye after Connor Sheriden had fielded a clearance kick by the visitors and drew the cover defence before putting Kaye in at the corner.
The second half belonged to the visitors running in 2 tries in the 50th and 55th minutes with Wetherby unable to reply. Thoough they did try to get the ball moving, mistakes and penalties littered their play. In the last 10 minutes however they did improve and increase the tempo. They came close to scoring on several occasions but could not cross the try line.
This was a disappointing display against promotion rivals and they will seek to improve e before next week’s away league fixture at Sheffield Oaks.
