The first 15 minutes was even with no quarter given or taken with all the action between the two packs. The stalemate was broken after 17 minutes after Knaresborough broke away but Jack Kaye intercepted and raced over from halfway and Alex Duss converted . Two minutes later Andy Trotman gave the ball away but Borough knocked on and Trotman recovered the ball and jinked his way over for a converted try. Knaresborough had worked hard up front with their short driving game but had nothing to show for it and Wetherby had spoiled chances with poor handling.

It didn’t take long after half time for the Reds to extend their lead with a great try following move involving several players with quick hands and good support which took them to the visitors line. The ensuing Knaresborough scrum came under great pressure and Nick Oates charged down the clearing kick; retrieved the ball and spun it wide for Andy Trotman to score. Almost from the kick off Trotman picked his way through the Knaresborough defence leaving 4 defenders bemused by his dancing feet and change of pace for his hat trick try. Wetherby were now well on top and Will Cayton capitalised on a loose ball which squirted out over the line from a scrimmage which he pounced on to score.

Knaresborough did get some consolation for their endeavours when their centre ran through the home defence from 40 meters to score a try which was converted.

A welcome return to winning ways though there is still room for improvement. Up front Frank Pitchford grafted hard at almost every breakdown and Taff Olte and Liam Hogan defended well. So the Reds move up 2 places in the league and will need to be on form for their trip to Mosborough on the 26th.
