Wetherby well beaten by League leaders.

Wetherby well beaten by League leaders.

Sean Lally30 Oct 2011 - 21:13

It was easy to see why the Medics are table toppers with their all out attacking style which they did with pace and precision.

Wetherby had similar intent with Henry Morgan making an early break and Liam Hogan was a little unlucky when he was adjudged to have tackled unfairly.
A succession of penalties against them took the steam out of Wetherby’s offensive. Leeds now returned to the attack and after a series of moves when the ball was moved through many pairs of hands with wave after wave they finally outgunned the resolute Wetherby defence and scored their first converted try.

The visitors were on the attack again with their impressive full back running 50 meters through the home defence . The situation was reversed when Alex Fraser gained thne yardage with a super clearance kick to touch. The Reds picked up the pace with the introduction of veteran Nick Oates but they couldn’t quite breach the visitors defence then Medicals replied with a sything cross field run by their swift centre who scored wide out.

In the early part of the second half Wetherby lost their way while Leeds Medicals dominated the scrums and lineout and it was a hard struggle without the ball and Leeds effectively won the game with a
Converted try after 50 minutes. On the rare occasions that Wetherby had the ball, usually from clearance kicks, Henry Morgan caused problems for the visitors defence with his impressive running skills.

However 2 further tries by the leaders allowed them to ease up. This resulted in a great solo try by Tom Edwards. From a kick off he hacked on twice and won the race to pounce on the ball over the tryline.
Myles Oates converted well from the touchline. The final minutes saw The Reds up their game with Liam Hogan prominent and young prop Bradley Mason making 2 barnstorming runs.

Wetherby were well beaten by the League Leaders who gave a well drilled performance. They will be trying hard to get back to winning ways in 2 next week time when they visit Old Otliensians for a 2:15 kick off.
