First HalfFirst Half
Wetherby opened the scoring early with a penalty from their dominant scrum, converted by debutant Olly Walters (0-3). Bradford Salem came back at Wetherby through some hard ball carrying and after missing an early attempt, levelled the game through a penalty from Andy Robinson (3-3). Wetherby hit back through their forwards, with George Gilbert breaking off a rolling maul to score an unconverted try (8-3), before more hard carrying saw Cam Briggs cross the whitewash for a try converted by Walters (15-3). Bradford Salem came back before half-time and scored their first try of the season following a smart bit of work from their scrum-half Callum Smith, converted by Robinson (15-10). Bradford Salem threatened the tryline again before half-time but the home side defended well to hold the visitors out.

Second Half
Bradford Salem came out of the blocks fastest in the second half and took the lead for the first time in the game as scrum half Smith scored again, converted by Robinson (15-17). Wetherby were on the back foot and had to fight hard to get themselves back in the ascendency. More good work at scrum time got them in a good position again and it was George Gilbert who broke off the back of another scrum to finish well in the corner for an unconverted try (20-17). Wetherby then went in to their best period of the game as their backline started to connect well off the back of forward dominance. A fantastic break from Mo Beeson created a chance which debutant Olly Walters was all to happy to put away, despite being unable to convert his own try (25-17). This was quickly followed by more good work from the forwards creating space outside, which George Grafton expertly found with a cross-field kick for winger Jack Wilson to dot down. The conversion narrowly missed from the touchline (30-17). Despite Wetherby's period of dominance, it never felt like Bradford Salem were done and another excellent bit of work from scrum-half Smith put flanker Morgan Mirzali under the sticks to close the gap, with the conversion inexplicably missed from straight in front (30-22). The missed conversion seemed to take all the sting out of the game as Wetherby closed out a hard fought victory, with Bradford Salem unfortunate to come away from the game with nothing.
