Wetherby along with Leeds medics and dentists came into the game off the back of a win from the previous week. Former yorkshire divison 2 team Leeds were looking to pick up the win after a mediocre start and sitting mid table, where as Wetherby wanted to keep the winning streak going.
Former Leeds medics and dentist and now Wetherby player Steve Hoather wanted to “give them a taste of their own medicine” and had been excited for the game all week.
The game kicked off and straight away a mistake from the welsh forward Tom Hicks gave Leeds an opportunity in Wetherby’s half. The scrum was won by Leeds and they attacked, however tom Hicks redeemed him self and turned the ball over moments later and set the forever faithful try scoring pain train winger Jack Kaye in for the first try of the game.
Leeds then restarted and Wetherby were ruthless from there on. The Wetherby forwards set up quick and fast ball for the backs, who were clinical and racked up 50 points by half time with tries coming from the back line of Conor Sheridan, Andrew 'the peacock' Trotman, Myles Oates and Will Jefferson.
The second half started similarly but with the forwards getting on the score sheet and tries coming from Bradley Mason, Mattie Chapel, Tom Edwards and Rob Adair.
Leeds medics had a spell in the second half where they looked deadly and could have scored, but young Jack Barthorpe put in a try saving tackle to keep them at nil. However in the collision he became concussed and had to be substituted. Credit to Leeds as the future medics were there to assist him back to his feet.
The game continued and with only 10 minutes to go Steve Hoather let his emotions get in the way and squandered a chance when Wetherby had an overlap only to be substituted after.
Wetherby scored 16 tries and converted 12 of these kicks which were shared between the most valuable player to the team who’s name doesn’t need to be mentioned and also… Alex Dus.
Final score Wetherby 104- 0 Leeds medics and dentists.
Mike Hicks (head coach) was pleased with the result as it is an outcome of his great coaching that takes place on a Tuesday and Thursday at grange park.
Next week sees Wetherby face Old Otliensians who were the last team to beat Wetherby back in February 2014.
