For the second home game in succession Wetherby manged to prevent the opposition from scoring a try but frustratingly passed up the chance to go into second place in the league by losing a defence orientated game 3-0 to a sole penalty from Sheffield Oaks. Wetherby proved dominant in the scrummage area and attempted to utilise this ball out wide with their pacy backs. However this proved one of those days were every half break proved to be undone if not by the good defence of the opposition then by a poor pass, the bounce of the ball or lack of support at the crucial moment. Jo Mason, Myles Oats, Ben Dalby and Dan Simpson all went close but it was not to be. Hopefully Wetherby can take the positives of the strong defence and scrummage work from this game to gain their first away game of the season next Saturday at Stocksbridge who have been gaining some good wins in recent weeks.
