With the help of home advantage and a sloping pitch the hosts must have been optimistic about their chances of winning.
From the off Mosborough attacked into the bottom corner of the slope. Wetherby counter attacked up hill when Matty Harrison won the ball in the loose and David Adair opened up space for Conor Sheriden to carve his way through the home defence to score and then convert. They almost scored again following several thrusts but wasted the chance with a s forward pass.
Mosborough hit back via the bottom corner and from a lineout scored a pushover try. 'Borough continued to use the pick and drive tactic but Wetherby's tackling was excellent. Frank Pitchford and Elliot Griffiths stopped them abruptly. The home forwards were playing hard but made little impression other than a penalty goal which gave them an 8 - 7 lead at half time.
Wetherby shuffled their pack ;following Steve Hoather's injury but it had a good effect, with George Gilbert moving back to No 8, his normal position and he went on to have a fine game both in attack and defence. A pushover try on 48 minutes was the start of a great second half display . Winger Andy Trotman joined a maul to score the pushover try. A penalty goal by Connor Sheriden opened up the lead which grew after Conor Sheriden sliced through and Jack Kaye was held up short.
From the ensuing maul the Reds were awarded a penalty which Rob Adair took quickly to plunge over for a converted try. The backs now worked Andy Trotman some space thanks to good hands by Danny Warden and Liam Hogan. Andy Trotman wrong footed the full back to cross wide out. A brilliant conversion by Sheriden added the extras.
Next the rampaging George Gilbert collected a knock down by the home lineout and ran 35 yards to score a superb try followed by a another great conversion by Sheriden. Mosborough didn't give up and after period of pressure on the Reds line they rumbled over for a try from close range. from the kick off Mosborough tried to run the ball out but Jack Kaye read the move and intercepted and ran in under the posts which was converted.
Their second half performance was one of the best by a confident Wetherby side . They were lethal in attack and very effective in defence.
They return to Sheffield next Saturday to play Sheffield Oaks where they have a score to settle following an unlikely defeat there last season. With a 21 point advantage in the league over third placed Corinthians, a win next week would likely confirm promotion.
