Another fabulous performance......

Expecting a hard game against Leeds Corinthians their closest league rivals Wetherby ran away with the game with a superb display of scrummaging, handling and off loading.
Showing their intent immediately the almost scored from the kick off but within 5 minutes Johnny Wheatley fielded a clearance kick and attacked resulting in a Connnor Sheriden converted try.
It took another 15 minutes before some strong scrummaging and good handling enabled Rob Adair to score.. Corinthians replied strongly but missed a penalty before Johnny Wheatley was bundled in to touch a feew metres out and had to leave the field injured.
Wetherby's superior scrum allowed George Gilbert to score the pushover try created by the controlled power of the pack. Connor Sheriden converted. The Reds next try came from within their own 22 and good hands saw Will Jefferson score in the corner.
The half time score was 31 - 0 to which the home side added a try by Tom HIcks after the forwards stole the ball from a lineout. He was involved again creating a try for Barney Roberts in a move which started again from near their own line.
Corinthians responded forcing the Reds back almost to their own goal line. They won the lineout and scored a converted try.
The next line out went well for Wetherby when George Gilbert
took the ball off the top and the backs ran well and Myles Oates rounded the Leeds defence. Connor Sheriden goaled. With game won Wetherby fielded several substitutes and it was one of these who made his mark. Liam Hogan stole the ball in a tackle and scored under the posts. The tiring Leeds defence was easily breached when Conner Sheriden outpaced them and converted his own try. Wetherby kept up the pressure right til the end and Liam Hogan took a great pass from Alex Dus to score..
So a great display to consolidate their position at the top of the division.. The home supporters went home happy having seen what long suffering supporter Larry Darbyshire described as the best display he had seen by Wetherby in 30 years.
Next week Wetherby travel to Thorne for a Silver Trophy game which should provide a sterner test than they have experienced in recent games.
